Using Older PLR For Today (Sales Pages)
Posted By Anne on June 23, 2009
Today’s post is a little different. We’re going to discuss what can be done with older PLR - the stuff that some people might call “junk” and I still say is well worth the effort.
You’ve gotten your hands on an old PLR ebook in a niche that your in - or on a subject that you have an interest in - and you want to try to resell it. But the darn thing is 3 or 4 years old and the sales page that came with it looks terrible by todays standards. How can you easily fix it up so that it looks shiney and bright?
1) Update the graphics. There are several ways you can go about this.
One would be to have the graphics updated professionally. I imagine that this process would cost between $50-$200, depending on the amount of work that needs to be done and whether it’s being done from scratch or just an update of the original. (I’m really not a graphics guru type!!)
Another would be to use some PLR graphics. There are some nice ones available at Niche Helper. One set is a complete Graphics package that I myself have and use all the time. It contains over 1500 graphic elements for your website. With categories like Bullets, Order Buttons, Guarantee etc. it’s easy to find what you want. Another good graphics PLR is called Graphics Gallery. It’s an older ‘online’ package (you can resell it as well), that has over 3500 graphic elements including Icons, Backgrounds and Color Coordinated Button Sets.
For Headers there are four or five different sets available. Some are available in only PSD format and others with both PSD and JPG.
You can also modify any header to suit your needs with just a little work. I use a program called Paint Shop Pro. It’s now owned by Corel and, in my opinion could be considered a “little brother” to Photoshop. For me, it’s much more user friendly yet still packs a powerful punch - especially with a price around $100! I believe Corel offers 30 Free Trial downloads of the full version as well. What I do is find another PLR header that I like better and edit the header with my product. I know this may sound trite and yes, sometimes I do get in over my head, LOL, but it usually works out quite well for me as I try to just stick with changing the header verbage. (Erasing the old product name and then adding the new one). I use the same procedure for ebook covers as well.
Many older products didn’t come with a guarantee, so I always add that with a nice guarantee graphic too. I also ususlly switch out the bullets on older websites. Honestly it takes more time to pick out the one I like best than it does to actually make the switch. I use Adobe Dreamweaver, but I’m sure it’s a similar process for other HTML programs. Do one and then Copy and Paste for the rest!
Now, it’s time to update the rest of the sales page. There are several areas that need editing: The price, the product name (if you changed it), the date (including the copyright on the footer, if there is one), any verbiage that you think is dated and needs changing and the payment method.
Changing the verbiage is obvious and you should pick up a good Sales Page guide to help you with that. The price is your call. For payment method, I use PayPal and they have a nifty and easy to use little script on their site that makes a “Buy Now” button for you. Simply go to your PayPal account and follow the instruction to set it up. Then insert the code they give you into your sales page HTML. Be sure to test the link before you go live!
Your first attempt at revitalizing an older sales page could take a 8 hours or so, if you’re unfamilar with the programs that you’re using - but after that it gets easier and easier. Before you know it, you’ll be able to complete the entire process in under an hour! Like anything worthwhile in life - there’s a learning curve. But stick with it and your efforts will be rewarded!
